About Maryann
Journalist Maryann Batlle is based out of Southwest Florida.
Maryann (she/her/ella) is a native of Miami-Dade County, Florida. She earned her bachelor’s degree in communication at Florida Gulf Coast University in 2010.
Two years later, she obtained her Master of Mass Communication from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University.
She currently serves as UU World Magazine’s digital editor, overseeing the website, uuworld.org, and the newsletter, Wayfinder, which she helped launch in October 2024.
Before joining UU World, Maryann spent a decade in local news as part of the USA TODAY Network. She began her career at the Naples Daily News in Naples, Florida, where she was promoted from intern to reporter to editor of The Banner, a twice-a-week community newspaper.
Most recently, she was Emerging Audiences Editor at the Democrat and Chronicle in Rochester, New York.
Maryann is fluent in Spanish and English. Her interests include reading, telling and editing stories, coaching journalists, the First Amendment, public policy, community service — and speaking truth to power.
