Editor,
The Banner
January 2017-
March 2021
I led a staff of two reporters and a few freelancers and collaborated with a remote design team. Together, we created two weekly editions of a community newspaper for subscribers in South Lee County, Florida.
The Banner is part of the Naples Daily News/USA TODAY Network.
I edited and posted content on our website, the-banner.com, and I managed the brand’s Facebook page.

As a member of the metro team, I covered different aspects of Lee County, Florida, which has a population of more than 600,000 people and includes one of the fastest growing cities in the United States, Cape Coral.
I produced stories and videos that helped the Naples Daily News, based in Collier County, expand its dominance into its neighboring county.
When the village of Estero went through the process of forming in 2015, I covered the grass-roots campaign for cityhood and followed the new village through its first two years of existence.
I participated in award-winning breaking news reporting as part of the Naples Daily News team. My most challenging assignments included the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida (for the Naples Daily News) and later the Cuban exile community’s reaction in Miami to Fidel Castro’s death (for the Naples Daily News and USA TODAY).

I was part of a months-long investigation that examined the state of American voting rights — from elections system security to voter suppression laws. We curated what turned out to be one of the most comprehensive databases logging reported incidents of voter fraud throughout the country.
In addition, I led a smaller team of reporters through a multimedia project on the patchwork of voting rights laws that impact people who have felony convictions on their records. The project included three print stories, a piece that aired on NPR, a video and an audio-visual slideshow.
